World Standards Day: the standards behind every coating layer
On 14 October, the ASTM and ISO standards that define each Sapucaia coating, how they are kept at the current revision, and what changes with the new ISO 9001:2026.

Every 14 October is World Standards Day — the date that recognises those who write and those who apply the technical standards that make industry reliable. In surface treatment, a standard does not stay in a drawer: it defines the bath composition, the coating thickness, the heat treatment after plating and the test that proves the result.
Between the B and the F
At ASTM, the B series gathers the standards for metallic coatings, and the F series, those for fasteners. Sapucaia works exactly where the two meet: we coat bolts, nuts, studs and components that operate where corrosion or fracture are not acceptable.

News: ISO 9001:2026 has been published
On 16 September 2026 ISO published the sixth edition of ISO 9001, which replaces the 2015 one. The clause structure was kept, and the advances are where quality is actually decided: promoting a quality culture and ethical behaviour becomes an explicit responsibility of leadership, and risks and opportunities get their own, separate requirements.
Certified companies have three years for the transition: certificates to the 2015 edition stop being valid after 30 September 2029.
Sapucaia’s ISO 9001:2015 certificate remains valid. The new edition was identified by our standards-verification system in the month of publication, and the quality management system is already being adapted to the new requirements.
How we keep standards at the current revision
Every ASTM and ISO standard we apply is officially purchased and recorded in our controlled-standards system, with the current revision, the process parameters it defines and the matching inspection plan. Every year the quality team checks with the issuer whether a new edition has come out. When it has, the standard is updated and the process is revised before any production.
And if an order arrives citing a more recent revision than the one on record, the part only goes on the line after the new edition is implemented. The edition of the standard is part of the specification — and ignoring that has already brought down offshore equipment, as the case documented by the US regulator shows in ASTM B633: the edition is part of the specification.
So that no update goes unnoticed, Sapucaia relies on an automatic standards-verification system with artificial intelligence, which monitors new editions and alerts the quality team whenever a revision is published. And we follow the ASTM technical committees, to know what is under revision before the new edition comes out. That way process, testing and training adapt before the change reaches the customer’s order.
Why this matters to whoever specifies
A specification well met is lot traceability, a certificate with the measured result and predictable field performance. The coating is checked in our own laboratory, by X-ray, and the test report is sent on request to those with an active project.
