Xylan 1014
The PPG line reference for lubricity, applied where the part must withstand corrosion, abrasion, temperature and chemical attack at the same time.
The 1014 is applied where the part faces more than one aggressor at once: corrosion, abrasion, temperature and chemicals. It is the profile of a component that works inside equipment, not exposed to weather — which is why it appears in engines and reactors as much as in drilling tools.
The family’s non-stick property has a use here that often goes unnoticed: a surface that retains no residue is a surface that cleans fast, and in process equipment that is downtime.
The 1014’s corrosion resistance can be reinforced with a zinc-nickel base underneath. The fluoropolymer is a barrier: it protects while the film is intact. Zinc-nickel is sacrificial galvanic protection, which keeps acting at the point where the layer was scratched by assembly or impact. Together, they cover what neither covers alone. The base, class and thickness come from the standard of your end customer — the sales team returns the system. The complete system has its own page: zinc-nickel with PTFE.
Technical data
The specification for this reference is given by our sales team according to the application. Tell us the standard or requirement of your end customer and we point you to the right reference, with the class and thickness that meet your project.
The applications that come here.
Automotive
Engine parts — piston, piston pin, valve, bearing and fastener — to add corrosion and wear resistance.
Chemical industry
Process equipment: reactor, tank and piping, to protect the surface from corrosive product attack.
Oil & gas
Piping and well-drilling equipment.
Aerospace
Aircraft components — bolt, pin and spring — for corrosion resistance with reduced friction.
What specifiers usually ask.
Can the corrosion resistance of Xylan® 1014 be improved?
Yes, with a zinc-nickel base under the fluoropolymer. The 1014 works as a barrier; zinc-nickel adds sacrificial galvanic protection, which keeps defending the steel at a point where the film was damaged. The designation of the base — class, type and grade within ASTM B841 — is the one on the customer’s order.
