Coatings for the nuclear supply chain
IBQN approved for supply to the nuclear chain, with cadmium, hydrogen relief in a calibrated oven and the documentary traceability the sector demands.
In the nuclear chain, supplier qualification is a purchase prerequisite — and the documentary record is worth as much as the coating.
The nuclear chain asks for less process variety and far more traceability. What gets audited is the chain of records: which lot received which bath, at what measured thickness, in which oven, with which uniformity survey — and who signed each step.
Sapucaia is approved by IBQN for supply to the nuclear chain. It is one of the three approvals the company holds, and it is of a different nature from the other two: it is not an OEM nor a coating manufacturer, it is the qualification of supply to the chain.
Cadmium has kept a regulatory exemption for nuclear use in the European Union since 1991, which preserves it where the project standard still specifies it.
What we apply in this sector.
Cadmium
Electrolytic cadmium plating to ASTM B766 class 12 type II, with 1,000 hours of salt spray in an ASTM B117 report from an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited test.
Hydrogen embrittlement relief
Hydrogen-relief heat treatment between 150 °C and 250 °C, immediately after galvanic coating, in ovens calibrated to API 6A.
Zinc-nickel
Zinc-nickel to ASTM B841 and ISO 4042, with a 12 to 16% nickel alloy and resistance above 1,000 hours of salt spray, controlled by X-ray.
